MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Richard McGuire Givens Sr., age 69, died Saturday, February 9, 1991, as the result of injuries from an automobile accident in Las Cruces, N.M. His wife, Mrs. Jean Patterson Givens, also died as a result of the same accident. Born January 4, 1922, in Norton, Va., he was the son of the late Emmett E. Givens and Nannie Lou Delp Givens. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. For 22 years Mr. Givens was a mechanical engineer with P.C. Godfrey Heating-Air Conditioning in Charlotte. He was a member of the American Society of Heating-Air Conditioning Engineers, having served as a past president of the Charlotte chapter. He was a member and past president of the North Carolina Warm Air and Heating-Air Conditioning Association of Charlotte and the Lake Norman Lions Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville where he served as an elder and chairman of the building committee. Mr. Givens is survived by a son, Richard (Dick) Givens Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Ms. Kathleen Givens, Statesville, N.C.; one brother, Curtis D. Givens, Martinsville, Va. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville conducted by Dr. S. Edwin Lewis and Dr. Fred A. Coates. Interment will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Cavins Funeral Home, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mooresville Christian Mission, P.O.
