NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS

BRIAN BAYLOR of Christiansburg has been named manager of the 84 Lumber Store in Christiansburg, where he will be responsible for operations, sales and inventory control.

Baylor is a native of Corbin, Ky., and started with the 84 chain in 1989. The 84 Lumber Co. is the nation's largest privately held lumber and building supply retailer, with 355 stores across the country.

\ SUSAN S. ALDERMAN and CAROLYN M. SOUTHERN have been promoted to group manager positions with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. of Virginia.

Alderman and Southern have both been with the company for 12 years, and both are assigned to the new Operator Services Center, 802 E. Main St. in Pulaski, which is scheduled to open in mid-March.

\ VINCENT J. CLARK has been named general manager at Intermet's Radford plant, a company that manufactures precision iron parts for automotive and industrial customers in North America, Europe and Asia.

Clark joined the Lynchburg-based company in 1963 and has since held positions at its Lower Basin and Radford plants, including quality analyst, quality engineer, manager of cost reduction and senior engineer.

Clark attended Ferrum College and Lynchburg College.

\ PAUL GRIMES, chief inspector for Anderson and Associates, received a special award from his peers at the Virginia Surveyor's Association banquet, which was held recently. He was honored for being an outstanding professional in his field and an all-around great person.

\ THOMAS & THOMAS ADVERTISING of Radford was chosen as agency of record by the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance for both advertising and marketing activities. The advertising and public relations firm is located at 106 Arlington Ave.

Team members of Anderson and Associates, an engineering firm in Blacksburg, recently passed their professional exams. They are: TOMMY DIGUILIAN, who passed the engineering in training exam; GREG PERKINS, who passed the surveyor in training exam; and TIM STOWE, who passed the professional engineers and land surveyors exam.
