MAN CHARGED WITH REPORTING FALSE THEFT

A Max Meadows man who reported a $12,000 theft from his home last month has been charged with giving false information to police and trying to defraud an insurance company.

Gregory A. Tolbert had reported that someone broke into his basement Jan. 11 and took $12,000 worth of guns and tools.

Wythe County Sheriff Wayne Pike said charges were filed against Tolbert this week after an investigation into his report. Investigators now believe no theft occurred.
