FERRUM CLINCHES SECOND IN DIXIE

In its final home game and conference game of the season, Ferrum pounded Greensboro 70-50 in Dixie Conference basketball Wednesday night.

With the win, the Panthers (14-9 overall, 7-3 Dixie) clinched second place in the conference after winning just one Dixie game all of last season.

Seniors Mark Cottom and Tim Lea went out on a good note Wednesday. Lea had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Cottom, who leads Division III in assists (9.5 per game), scored 11 and had 17 assists.

Everett Foxx, the second-leading scorer in the Dixie, added 14 points and Aaron Burrell 12. The Hornets fell to 10-18, 2-7.

The Panthers have one game remaining in the regular season, at Newport News Apprentice.
