THIS WAR'S VETERANS WILL GET GOOD CARE

I DO NOT agree at all with the Jan. 29 letter by Perry W. Carr. I am a veteran of World War II and have been a volunteer at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem since Sept. 16, 1984. I had more than 6,000 hours as of April 1990.

As far as I have ever seen, all veterans are well taken care of. The doctors, nurses and technicians are all well-trained and caring people, and their capabilities are as good if not better than at any other hospital in Roanoke. Our patients get excellent treatment as far as I am concerned.

I was in the VA Hospital last April. I had chest surgery and many tests. My care was excellent and I had a really good recovery. They are all dedicated people. So I think any veterans from the Persian Gulf war will be treated as well as any others. ELLSWORTH W. WILKINSON
