STAND SWITCHED ON CANADIAN PORK

A Commerce Department agency has ruled that subsidized exports of some Canadian pork products are not threatening any U.S. industry, the agency announced Wednesday.

The agency, the International Trade Commission, acted on a 3-0 vote, reversing two of its previous rulings in the case, the commission said.

The commission ruled in 1989 that fresh, chilled and frozen pork subsidized by Canada threatened material harm to U.S. sellers. Canada appealed to a panel established by the 1988 U.S.-Canada free trade agreement.
