DON'T LET GULF WAR GET ALL NEWS ATTENTION

A TINY paragraph, buried at the bottom of the "Briefly . . . " portion of the "In the World" section on Page A-2 Jan. 30, informed only the most attentive or obsessive news reader that the United States had delivered three A-37 jet fighters and six attack helicopters to the Salvadoran air force.

The war in the Persian Gulf has consumed the attention of most of your readers. Yet you do the public a disservice by failing to draw more attention to the United States' active support of the military regime in El Salvador, which has committed plenty of well-documented human-rights abuses over the years. I strongly urge you not to let your coverage of the war in the Gulf obscure our government's involvement in other questionable activities around the world. ANNE GLICK ROANOKE
