"The ribbons may be seen by some as not impartial . . . as some sort of a political statement," police spokesman Barry Barnard said. "It reaches a point that you have to be careful that we don't, in law enforcement, put ourselves on one side of the political spectrum or another.
"If we are asked to respond, to say, a war protest, if we arrive with yellow ribbons on our cars . . . it could be seen as any action we're going to take is against their cause."
