BOONES MILL MAN INJURED IN ACCIDENT

A Franklin County man was in critical condition Friday night after his truck hit a tree in the median of U.S. 220, state police said.

Samuel Lee Stone, 40, of Boones Mill was airlifted from the scene by Life-Guard 10 and taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital about 7 p.m.

Stone's pickup truck veered off the divided road onto the left shoulder and hit a large tree, state Trooper M.D. DeHart said. Stone apparently was not wearing a seat belt, he said.

The accident occurred in Roanoke County just north of the Franklin County line.

There were no witnesses and no clues why Stone ran off the road, DeHart said. The truck left straight tire marks in the grass leading to the tree, he said.

Stone's dog was killed in the accident, DeHart said.
