WORKSHOPS HELP KIDS SOLVE CONFLICTS

Helping children find non-violent means to solve conflicts is the aim of two daylong workshops being offered by the Plowshare Peace Center.

The first - "For Those Who Work and Play with Children" - will be Feb. 23; the second - "Dealing with Conflict on a Day-to-Day Basis" - will be March 16.

Both will last from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke, 2015 Grandin Road S.W. They are limited to 30 participants each.

The first workshop will use a program called children's creative response to conflict." It will be led by Candace Powlick and Tom Cleary of Richmond. They use the program to train guidance counselors in Hanover County.

The second workshop is from the same program and will be led by Ruth Ann Brown of Richmond.

Each session will cost $25, which covers the cost of lunch and curriculum materials. Scholarships and payment plans are available.

Applications and additional information are available from Plowshare Peace Center, P.O. Box 1623, Roanoke 24008; phone 985-0808.
