The comedy takes place in the small Mississippi town of Brookhaven a few days before the Fourth of July as Carnelle Scott rehearses for the Miss Firecracker Contest.
Her efforts to win the pageant and salvage her tarnished reputation are complicated by the arrivals of her cousin Elain and her eccentric brother Delmount, recently released from a mental institution.
The play chronicles their escape from unhappy pasts.
