Mrs. Virginia Hicks Cassell, age 75, died Saturday, February 16, 1991, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs. Cassell was a life-long member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church. She had taught in the Smyth County school system for forty-two years. She is survived by her husband, John J. (Jake) Cassell of Marion; one daughter, Judy Cassell of Atlanta, Georgia; three brothers, William Hicks of Marion; Paul Hicks of Troutville, Virginia; and Randolph Hicks of Petersburg, Virginia. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 1991, at 1:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Davis Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
