The Crusaders (14-7) advance to the state tournament in Richmond next weekend.
Gateway fell behind 20-8 after the first quarter, but trailed by only three, 49-46, at the end of the third quarter as Tim Henderson nailed a 60-foot shot to beat the buzzer. The Crusaders then dominated the fourth quarter, catching Stanleytown at 51 and eventually outscoring their opponents 27-16.
Dan Osborne had 18, Joey Linkous 17, Henderson 15 and Matt Linkous 12 for Gateway. Henderson, a junior point guard, was named the tournament MVP, and Matt Linkous joined him on the all-tournament team.
Lee Orr scored 24 and David Cobbler 16 for Stanleytown. Both players also made the tournament team.
