OFFENSIVE TO SAY AIRLINE SHOULD DIE

GERALD W. Meadows' statement (Commentary Page, Feb. 1) that Eastern Airlines as a "union-busting airline deserved to die" was offensive. Eastern was a good carrier with pleasant, attentive flight attendants. Its schedules were kept well and I was never aware of a safety problem.

I find exultation at the demise of an American business distasteful and feel no "shame," as Meadows suggests I should, for flying Eastern. It seems to me such heavy pro-union sentiments have clouded (no pun intended) his judgment.
