FEARS: WRONG VIEW OF WHAT IS A SPORT

THE NEWS article Feb. 5, "Senate backs lower DUI limit," contained a very enlightening statement. Sen. William Fears, D-Accomack, thought the lowering of the blood alcohol content to 0.08 percent for a drunken-driving conviction was too strict. He said, "This is going to take all the sport out of drinking and driving."

I had no idea that "drinking and driving" was a sport. If it is, it is a deadly one. I would suggest to Sen. Fears that he consider golf, tennis or bowling, which are a lot more "sporty" and a lot less deadly to the participant, as well as to the innocent public.

My thanks to those senators who voted for this measure.
