ABC'S 'THIRTYSOMETHING' DELAYED TO SATURDAY

Southwest and Central Virginia fans of the ABC television show "thirtysomething" will have to wait a few extra days to find out what happened at Gary's funeral.

ABC-affiliate WSET (Channel 13) is pre-empting the show, which normally airs at 10 p.m. Tuesdays, for the Virginia-Georgia Tech basketball game (which begins at 9 p.m.). A station spokeswoman said the "thirtysomething" episode would be shown Saturday night at 11:30, after WSET's local newscast.

On the Feb. 12 show, Gary, played by Peter Horton, died in an accident. Rumors were circulating before the show aired that one of the characters would die during the course of the episode, but most observers figured it would be Nancy Weston, played by Patricia Wettig. Her character has been battling ovarian cancer, but got a clean bill of health on the Feb. 12 show.
