ALLISON MAY BE RETURNING TO ECHL

Dave Allison, the East Coast Hockey League's coach of the year in 1989-90 with the Virginia Lancers, is reported to be a leading candidate to become the new coach of the ECHL's Richmond Renegades.

Renegades president Allan Harvie, who abruptly fired coach Chris McSorley on Sunday night, said he will announce McSorley's successor this morning.

Allison became available last Thursday when Albany (N.Y.), a first-year franchise in the International Hockey League, folded. Allison left the Lancers to take the Albany post last summer.

Allison, in Albany on Monday, couldn't be reached for comment. Allison's wife, Marion, did confirm that he has talked with Harvie about the job.

The Renegades, 25-26-6 under McSorley, are in third place in the ECHL's Eastern Division and are battling Erie and Roanoke Valley for a playoff berth. - Staff report
