MAROON TIDE OUTLASTS NARROWS

Jeff Spells scored 20 points and James Gilliard added 10, including some key free throws down the stretch, as Galax defeated Narrows 50-45 in Mountain Empire District boys' basketball Monday.

Spells made a layup to put Galax (6-12 overall, 6-10 MED) up by four and Gilliard grabbed a couple of his 10 rebounds late in the game to hold off the Green Wave (4-12, 4-12).

Kenny Mosely led Narrows with 11.
