Virginia Union coach Dave Robbins was named as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's coach of the year by a committee of conference coaches, athletic directors and college presidents.

"I feel honored by this selection, but I have to give credit to the players on the team," Robbins said. "We have tremendously talented personnel, but it was their efforts on the floor that have allowed me to garner this award."

Virginia Union (23-3 overall, 11-1 CIAA) won the CIAA Northern Division and has a first-round bye in this week's conference tournament.
