TWO VERSIONS OF `WOLVES' COMING OUT ON VIDEO

Even before "Dances With Wolves" won so many Oscar nominations last week, Orion Home Video announced it would appear in two versions on cassette later this year.

The three-hour theatrical release is scheduled to arrive in video stores sometime in August, and a longer edition, adding 52 minutes of subplot and exposition, will be released around Christmas. An exact date has not been announced.

The longer version of the film will be "letterboxed" with dark strips across the top and bottom of the picture to preserve the height-to-width ratio of the theater screen. The three-hour edition will be a conventional videotape image.

The longer two-tape package will also include a 30-minute documentary, "The Making of `Dances With Wolves.' " Actor/director Kevin Costner is supervising the re-editing of his film.

Prices for the tapes have not been set, but they are expected to sell for around $90.
