2 ROANOKE MEN HELD IN ROBBERY TRY

Two Roanoke men were arrested Monday night following an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the Pic-Quik store at 5th Street and Elm Avenue Southwest.

Roy Asbury and Billy Asbury were taken into custody after police were called around 10 p.m. Another man escaped down an alley.

Roanoke Police Lt. R.L. Ross said three men attempted to rob Bruce Scharf, 58, when a store employee intervened. One of the suspects threw a metal pipe through one of the store's windows.

City police handled these other complaints Monday night:

A 15-year-old girl was shot in the thigh during a dispute in the 1900 block of Staunton Avenue Northwest. Michael Crenshaw, 18, was charged with malicious wounding. Police would not release the name of the girl because of her age.

James Edward Callaway, 35, of Roanoke was shot in the foot while walking in the 600 block of 11th Street Northwest about 9:30 p.m. He told police he heard several shots and believed they came from a passing car. No arrest had been made by early today.
