4 TAZEWELL SCHOOLS MAY STAY OPEN

The Tazewell County School Board has overridden Superintendent Frank Cosby's recommendation to close four small elementary schools, after the Board of Supervisors sent a resolution opposing the closings.

Now, school officials say, it will be up to the supervisors to come up with the extra money needed to operate those four schools next year, estimated at $600,000.

The supervisors passed their resolution 3-2 earlier this month after residents of the communities where the schools are located appealed to them.
