QUEEN'S HELICOPTER FORCED TO LAND EARLY

A helicopter carrying Danish Queen Margrethe II and her husband was forced to land Monday when it experienced mechanical problems, officials said. No one was injured, and the helicopter was not damaged.

The helicopter was on a 120-mile flight from Williamsburg to Charlottesville when the craft developed problems in its tail section.

Henning Olsen, spokesman for the Danish Foreign Ministry, said those riding in a helicopter ahead of the queen's saw the craft turn and go in another direction.

The aircraft landed at an airstrip in Hanover County near Richmond about 10:30 a.m.

The 50-year-old queen, her husband Prince Henrik, and the Danish ambassador and his wife switched to another helicopter and proceeded to Charlottesville about 30 minutes behind schedule, Olsen said.
