MAYBE TIME TO USE `RAINY DAY' FUND

THE FEB. 6 editorial in favor of state employee furloughs infuriated me. How easy it is for an outsider to decide that state employees should accept the furlough and that it is better to spread the pain.

I wonder if the author of this editorial would be willing to give up three weeks of salary and donate to the cause!

As for the $200 million "rainy day" reserve fund, Virginia is drowning in red ink, and it might be time to use that life preserver. RIC F. WALTERS ROANOKE
