SIMON ARTICLE ERRS ON ENERGY RESOURCES

IT SURPRISES me that you would print the absolute nonsense that Julian L. Simon preaches in his Feb. 10 Commentary Page article, "The worriers are wrong: We aren't depleting energy, other resources."

Mr. Simon is either shockingly ignorant of the earth's energy and resource base or else extremely clever in knowing what the affluent of the world want to hear. His cornucopian philosophy is replete with erroneous statements and generalizations without supportive evidence.

We don't need the Julian L. Simons. Only realistic and knowledgeable managers can plan for a future where each person will enjoy a reasonable quality of life. JESSE C. THOMPSON JR. SALEM
