The Arlington-based carrier said on May 2 it will eliminate two departures from Roanoke as part of a nationwide restructuring that will include furloughs, layoffs, early retirements and flight cancellations. The airline lost $454 million last year.
David Shipley, a USAir spokesman, said he could not confirm rumors that the airline may lay off a dozen part-time workers in Roanoke. He did say, however, that USAir plans to eliminate 1,300 customer-service agents as part of the cutbacks. - Staff report
