MENTAL HEALTH GROUP PLANS EASTER PROJECT

The Mental Health Association of Montgomery County is organizing its annual "Operation Easter Bunny" for the patients at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute.

The association is recruiting people to make and donate special Easter baskets to the patients. The baskets should be plastic containers with lids, such as a large margarine tub or a Cool Whip container.

The baskets can be decorated with pictures, and ribbons, and filled with artificial grass, assorted Easter candy and Easter decorations.

Please do not include sharp objects, glass or balloons.

There are 250 patients at the health institute, 25 of whom are diabetic and 18 of whom are teen-agers. The Mental Health Association would like to have special items for the teen-agers, such as straw baskets filled with cassette tapes, stuffed animals or stationery, in addition to the Easter candy.

Many of these patients have no one to remember them on holidays and special occasions. Call operation chairwoman Leesa Miller at 382-0630 if you are interested in participating.

All baskets should be finished and brought to the Mental Health Association office by March 18. The office is located at 203 Church St. in Blacksburg and is open weekdays, 9 a.m.-noon.
