W&M WRESTLERS SNUB SCHOOL COLORS

The colors will be fit for a funeral when William and Mary's wrestling team takes on Old Dominion in the Tribe's final regular-season match tonight.

William and Mary's wrestlers, their sport canceled by school officials as part of a cost-cutting move, will wear all-black uniforms.

William and Mary "has made a decision not to commit to us, and basically my kids are against wearing anything associated with the school colors right now," said coach Pete Shaifer. "I just felt black was the right color because we are definitely in mourning."

The Tribe (9-9) will wear uniforms borrowed from Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, which has black and gold as its school colors. The wrestling uniforms are solid black with no lettering.

William and Mary's school colors are green and gold.

Officials at the college announced last week that wrestling, men's and women's swimming and women's basketball will be eliminated from the 25-sport athletic department after this year. - Associated Press
