MAN WHO KILLED SELF WITH FIRE IDENTIFIED

A man who died after setting himself on fire had shown strong interest in politics, but local activists said Tuesday they did not notice him at previous rallies against the war.

Authorities used dental records to confirm the identity of Gregory D. Levey, 30, who doused himself with paint thinner Monday afternoon and set himself ablaze while carrying a peace sign.

He was the son of Boston Globe restaurant critic Robert Levey and the stepson of the Globe's Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Ellen Goodman. They had no immediate statement.
