The victory enabled Covington (14-6 overall, 14-4 in the Pioneer District) to tie James River for first place in the district's regular-season race. Officials will determine today a site and date for a playoff game between the two schools.
The Cougars trailed the Rockets 53-48 entering the final quarter. Twitty, working inside, spearheaded a 24-13 spurt that enabled Covington to win going away.
Neal Pressler had 18 points and Tony Jeter added 11 for Covington.
Senior guard Robert Thompson paced Natural Bridge (7-12, 7-10) with 23 points. Thompson also had four assists to establish a school-season record of 116.

Carroll County (15-5) survived a turnover-plagued third quarter - when the Cavaliers got only six shots and three points - to trail 50-48. Tazewell (10-9) fouled Andrew Hawks on an inbounds play with one second left, and Hawks made both tries on a bonus free-throw chance.
In overtime, Carroll scored first and Tazewell tied it at 52. The Cavaliers fouled Tazewell's Mark Bezjak with three seconds left, but he missed two free throws. Webb grabbed the rebound on the second and hit a stickback to win the game.
Ben Lockhart led Tazewell's scoring with 13 points.
Dustin Harmon had 13 for Caroll County.

Abingdon (7-12), which was up by 10 in the first half, led until Sheets gave Chilhowie (9-9) its first lead at 56-54 with 1:30 remaining. He hit another 3-pointer for a 59-54 lead that Abingdon could only trim with a final 3-pointer of its own.
Scott Barker led Chilhowie with 14 points.
Tyrone Brown led all scorers with 22 for the Falcons.

\ VIC Tournament Carlisle advanced in the first round of the Virginia Independent Conference boys' tournament by defeating home-team Miller School 59-54 at Charlottesville.
Carlisle lost its big man Trent Bowles, who was cut over the eye in the first half and didn't return.
After a 29-29 tie at halftime, the Chiefs (17-6) took a seven-point lead at the end of the third. But Miller's Eddie Lavan got hot and hit nine of his game-high 22 points in the final period.
The Chiefs were forced to spread their offense, hit 7-of-12 free throws and ended the season for Miller (8-15).
Donnie Pennington, who hit six of Carlisle's 13 fourth-quarter points, ended with 17, as did Justin Mutch.
Fishburne Military School (16-5) advanced to the second round with an 87-83 victory over visiting Hargrave Military Academy (14-5) at Waynesboro in a game the featured five 20-point scorers.
Rodney Santi led Fishburne Military with a game-high 29 points, John Allen had 20, Leslie Thompson had 18 and Jerome Anderson added 11.
For Hargrave Military, Arron Fox had 25 points, and Jonathon Hicks and Eric Murray had 21 each.
Roanoke Valley Christian (14-7) was eliminated in the first round as Eastern Mennonite (7-10) won 57-48 on the Eagles' home floor, 57-48.
Carlisle will play Holy Cross, which beat Lynchburg Christian 83-76.
