Williams Stewart Barger, passed from this life on February 19, having been preceded in death by his wife, Olivia. He was born in Clifton Forge, Va. on August 15, 1913 to William W. and Lula C. Barger. For the past 18 years he was a member of First Baptist Church, Roanoke having twice served as president of the Business Men's Bible Club. He was an 8 year member of Cave Spring Lions Club, having served as secretary. His active work career consisted of 37 years with Soil Conversation and Federal Highway Administration, worked in Roanoke from 1938-1957; from 1957-1968 he was the Senior Auditor and Deputy Executive officer of the Federal Highway Administration in Chicago, Ill; in 1966 he was chosen as professional federal employee of the year; and in 1968-1973 he was chief financial officer in Washington, D.C., and 1973 he retired from government, had lived in Roanoke. He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Barger Simmons, Madison, Miss.; Nancy S. Motley, Roanoke; four sisters, Marguerite Johnson, Fory Meyers, Fla.; Helen Morgan, Clifton Forge; Elizabeth Clendenen, Roanoke; Nadine Van Buren, Selma; grandchildren, Sharon Kleinman, Potomic, Md.; Shelley Case, Philadelphia, Pa.; Benjamin S. Motely, Roanoke; Christopher Simmons, Madison, Miss.; Karen Simmon, Madison, Miss.; four great-grandchildren; and living in-laws. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. John D. Cochran. Memorials may be made to the City Recue Mission.
