ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUP PICKETS CIRCUS IN NORFOLK

About 15 animal rights activists picketed the opening of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

The demonstrators, mostly teen-agers, waved signs Tuesday such as "Circus - no fun for animals" and urged patrons to boycott the event.

Circus officials issued a statement that called the protest "an attempt by a small group of activists to use the circus and the media to gain attention to their extremist views on `animal rights."'
