EXPORTERS' SURVEY PLANNED

The Blue Ridge World Trade Association will soon make a survey of Southwest Virginia businesses to see how involved they are in exporting and what kind of assistance they could use to improve exports.

Prestine Macy, southeastern regional marketing manager for the Virginia Port Authority and the trade group's transportation committee chairman, announced plans for the survey at a meeting of the group here Wednesday.

An information hot line also is being planned for would-be exporters, she said.

Jane Patton of McAllister Mills Inc. in Independence, chairman of the finance committee, said a finance seminar is planned for April 24 at Wytheville Community College on payment methods, letters of credit and other items of interest to exporters and importers. The cost will be $25 for association members and $45 for non-members.

Rick Williamson, resource center chairman, said a 50-page publication on "How to Export in Southwest Virginia" will be available soon. He said it will provide information not readily available to industries in this region. The publication will be free to association members.

Dues are $35 for corporations, $20 for individuals and $5 for students. Further information is available from P.O. Box 454, Independence, Va. 24348 (telephone Jill Burcham at 773-2711).

The resource center has been set up in the Wytheville Community College library, using materials furnished by Southwest Virginia companies working in exports.

The association has received letters and telephone calls from trading companies interested in representing Western Virginia firms. The inquiries will be on file at the resource center.
