An awards board will choose the winner in the quality and productivity improvement competition after a visit to the plants and a detailed presentation of the companies' manufacturing capability. The awards will be presented in April during a productivity conference in Alexandria.
ITT, which has a three-year contract to make night-vision goggles for military use, won a certificate of merit in the competition last year. ITT is "producing and delivering at maximum capacity," said spokeswoman Laurel Holder.
The other manufacturing finalists are CAMAC Corp. of Bristol, AT&T in Richmond and IBM Corp. at Manassas. ComSonics Inc. of Harrisonburg is being considered for an award for continuing excellence. Awards also will be made in private and public service and local government. - Staff report
