TOWN MESSENGER AIMED AT INFORMING CITIZENS

The town of Pulaski has started its own newspaper to keep citizens up to date on municipal activities and seek suggestions from the community.

The first issue of Town Messenger was mailed to Pulaski residents last weekend.

Town Manager Don Holycross reported to Town Council Monday night that his office had already received three suggestions from the public.

The newsletter will be published on an irregular basis, three to four times a year. The next issue will be announcing a town photo contest showing people, places, architecture or activities within the town.

Some items in the first issue are the kind people might want to clip and save - including information about recycling and what kind of items to take where, the Neighborhood Watch coordinators and their telephone numbers, and where to call for different municipal services.

Holycross had edited a similar newsletter as town manager at Waterville, Ohio, where he worked for five years before becoming Pulaski's town manager in late 1989. Mayor Gary Hancock said that newsletter was among the activities that impressed town officials when they hired Holycross.

The Pulaski newsletter asks readers to send questions, comments or suggestions with their names addresses and phone numbers to "Suggestion Box," Town Manager's Office, P.O. Box 660, Pulaski, Va. 24301. They also may be delivered to the Municipal Building.
