DEATH SENTENCE GIVEN FOR TORTURE, MURDER

A Stafford man faces the electric chair after a judge on Wednesday sentenced him to die for the torture and murder of a 15-year-old Potomac High School student.

Prince William Circuit Judge Herman Whisenant Jr. set anAug. 1 execution date for Michael Carl George, 33. All death penalty cases in Virginia get an automatic appeal to the state Supreme Court.

George said nothing in court before he was sentenced.

A seven-man, five-woman jury convicted George on Dec. 10 of killing Alexander Sztanko while stealing the youth's wallet, motorcycle and tennis shoes. The jury also recommended the death penalty.
