LET MEDIA BEWARE VIETNAM EXAMPLE

THE JAN. 31 article "War could be lost by the media" [by Reed Irvine and Joseph C. Goulden] was the best I have read in the newspaper for quite some time. I totally agree with it.

I served in Vietnam in 1967-68, and it was the media coverage and the non-support of the anti-war protesters that lost in Vietnam, not the men serving there. If the media cover the Gulf War and the protesters the same way they did Vietnam, we will be playing right into Saddam Hussein's hands.

I think the war will be won a lot faster and with fewer casualties if the media would stay out of it and let the servicemen do the fighting. JOHN W. PRYOR BEDFORD
