JURY SELECTED FOR TRIAL OF ALI CONFIDANT

A jury of nine women and five men has been selected for the fraud trial of flamboyant attorney Richard Hirschfeld, once a confidant of heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali.

The trial of Hirschfeld, 43, on charges of conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and the Securities and Exchange Commission opened Wednesday in U.S. District Court. Hirschfeld, who has homes in Charlottesville and Virginia Beach, also is charged with filing false income tax returns.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Barger described Hirschfeld as the kind of man "who liked to cheat even though he didn't have to."
