MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MURDERING GIRL, 8

A man who had confessed to the slaying of 8-year-old Newington girl pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Robert Miller, 25, pleaded guilty Wednesday to the murder of Destiny Souza, and is to be sentenced April 12, said Fairfax Commonwealth's Attorney Robert Horan.

The girl's body was found Sept. 17 in the basement of the home she shared with her aunt, Rebecca Hall.

Miller told authorities he was intoxicated the day of the slaying after drinking six 16-ounce cans of beer and a bottle of champagne, and struck the girl on the head with a jewelry box. She died of blunt-force trauma.
