ARMY CPL. ANGELA M. GEARY , an administrative specialist, has been named a non-commissioned officer. Geary, daughter of Bobby and Peggy Geary of 1535 Ruritan Rd., is a 1983 graduate of William Byrd High School and a 1987 graduate of Hollins College.

\ ARMY SPEC. MICHAEL D. PRESTON, son of Isabell Preston of 411 Third St. N.W., has received the Meritorious Service Medal. Preston, a personnel administration specialist, is a 1986 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ GARY D. McDANIEL JR., has been promoted to private first class in the Marine Corps. McDaniel, son of Gary and Shirley McDaniel of Roanoke, is a 1988 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ PVT. DAVID A. KARNES, son of Shirley and Hubert Karnes of 3795 Cloverdale Road, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Karnes is a 1990 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MELANIE BARNETT, daughter of Edgar and Linda Barnett of 2507 Bowman St., has completed recruit training at Orlando, Fla. Barnett is a 1990 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT RONALD J. JOHNSON, a 1990 graduate of William Fleming High School, has completed recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill.

\ MARINE PFC. CHRISTOPHER T. ESTEP, son of Susan E. Foutz of 2325 Gravel Hill Road, Troutville, has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Estep is a 1990 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS KYLE A. WENGER, son of Kyle Wenger Sr. of 1716 Hershberger Road, has completed Strategic Weapons System Electronics School and was promoted to his present rank.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT SAMUEL PIERRE, son of Alexis A. Pierre of 521 Bluff Ave., has completed recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill. Pierre is a 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ COAST GUARD SEAMAN APPRENTICE JAMES R. ROBERTS, son of Aubrey C. and Jean M. Roberts of 2202 Yeager Ave. N.E., has graduated from Coast Guard recruit training. Roberts is a 1989 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ SPEC. RODERICK E. DEW, son of Roderick L. and Georgette T. Dew of 4517 Northwood Drive N.W., has been deployed to the Middle East with Operation Desert Storm. Dew, a 1984 graduate of William Fleming High School, is a fighting-vehicle infantryman based at Fort Hood, Texas.

\ SPEC. DIANE R. HEATH, daughter of Judy D. and Roger L. Anderson of 2732 Kirkland Drive N.W., has been deployed to the Middle East with Operation Desert Storm. Heath, a motor transport operator based at Fort Sill, Okla., is a 1983 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ AIR FORCE SGT. JEFFREY A. HOSFELD, a security specialist, has arrived for duty at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. Hosfeld is the son of retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Lloyd D. Hosfeld of 3416 Birchlawn Ave. N.W. and Pat Hosfeld of Woodbridge.

\ NAVY FIREMAN GEORGE T. GRAVES, son of George W. and Lucille L. Graves of 2758 Meadowview Drive, has completed recruit training at San Diego. Graves is a 1990 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ AIR FORCE TECH. SGT. JOHN M. EDWARDS , a ground radio communication specialist, has arrived for duty at Homestead Air Force Base, Fla. Edwards is the son of John F. Edwards of 3825 Appletree Road and Sarah E. Edwards of Lynchburg.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS SCOTT A. KENDRICK, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter K. Kendrick of 5427 Capito St., has reported for duty at Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center. Kendrick is a 1985 graduate of Northside High School.

\ MARINE GUNNERY SGT. THOMAS C. BEDWELL, a 1976 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, received the Navy Achievement Medal while stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

\ NAVY SEAMAN APPRENTICE ANN M. DIGREGORIO, daughter of George E. and Sue A. Digregorio of 520 Water Oak Road, has reported for duty aboard the destroyer USS Yellowstone in Norfolk. Digregorio is a 1987 graduate of Northside High School.

\ COAST GUARD SEAMAN APPRENTICE GEORGE E. ASHE, son of George E. Ashe Sr. of 1510 Campbell Ave. S.E. and Peggy Ashe of 1037 Mattie Drive N.E., has graduated from Coast Guard recruit training. Ashe is a 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ AIR FORCE STAFF SGT. DEBORAH A. DAY, daughter of Edith and Thomas Witty of Buchanan, has been named noncommissioned officer of the year. The selection was based on duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, self-improvement and other accomplishments. Day, a personnel technician, is a 1980 graduate of Northside High School.

\ PVT. RODNEY T. BOND, son of Sterling O. Bond of 809 Gilmer Ave. N.W., has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Bond is a 1989 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ CHRISTINA L. BIGGS, daughter of Ronald E. Biggs of Eagle Rock, has been promoted in the Army to the rank of private. Biggs, an animal care specialist, is a 1990 graduate of James River High School.

THE NAVAL RESERVE has called several Roanoke Valley residents for duty at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in support of Operation Desert Storm.

They include: Navy Hospitalman Tina M. Beaudoin, daughter of Paul H. and Mary A. Beaudoin of New Castle, a 1988 graduate of the former New Castle High School; Navy Navy Lt. Jean G. Shelor of Buchanan, a 1986 graduate of Roanoke College and a 1988 graduate of Hollins College; Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Patricia G. Owens of Northwest Roanoke; Navy Hospitalman Apprentice Douglas A. Childress, son of Claude S. Childress of 7012 Autumnwood Lane, a 1988 graduate of Northside High School; Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Steven R. Greene, son of Lewis C. and Elsie H. Greene of Vinton, a 1979 graduate of Staunton River High School and a 1988 graduate of Wytheville Community College; Navy Chief Petty Officer Michael E. Morris of Buchanan, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.K. Morris of 1934 Azaela Drive, Daleville.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS TRACY A. BLANEY, daughter of Joyce A. and James G. Blaney Sr. of 1630 Mercer Ave. N.W., has been deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Storm while serving aboard the repair ship USS Jason, which is based in San Diego. She is a 1985 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ MARINE PFC. DALLAS K. NEEL of Fincastle has reported for duty with the 4th Marine Division, Lynchburg. He is a 1988 graduate of Glenvar High School.
