Underwood is the general superintendent of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. This is the highest office in the denomination.
He has been on the General Executive Board of the church for 20 years and was executive director of the denomination's World Missions Department for 16 years.
Underwood graduated from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., and from Roanoke College in Salem. He received his master of arts degree in 1954 from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.
Underwood has established many outreach programs at home as well as abroad. He is the author of four books, one of which is a textbook.
A native of Bluefield, W.Va., Underwood is vice president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of America.
