RUMMAGE SALE TO RAISE TRIP MONEY

Christiansburg Middle School is planning a rummage sale today in the school cafeteria, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There also will be student performances in music, dancing and magic.

The school's 215 sixth-graders are sponsoring the yard sale to raise money for a trip to Washington April 26-27.

Planned visits include the National Cathedral, the National Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Teacher Heidi Bernard said these sites will "tie in with their social studies class."

Bernard said the class hopes to raise at least $2,000. Their goal is to raise half the money needed for each child.

"The trip will cost about $80 per child, so if we can get at least $40 for each, that will be good - and then there are the children who will need even more than that," said Bernard.

The class plans other fund-raisers before the trip. "We want to do this every year," said Bernard. "There are so many children from Christiansburg that have never been to D.C. and it's only a short way away. We want no child to be denied," she said.
