GALAX WINS EASILY IN MOUNTAIN EMPIRE

Jeff Spells gunned in 21 points to lead Galax to a 61-42 victory over Rocky Gap in a preliminary round of the Mountain Empire District boys' basketball tournament Saturday.

The Maroon Tide (8-13, 7-11) advances to a game Tuesday night at 8:45 against Fort Chiswell at Christiansburg High School.

Galax stretched a two-point halftime lead to 10 points at the end of three quarters.

Dallas Bradshaw had 12 points and Chris Sutphin 10 for Rocky Gap.
