REBELS FALL AGAIN

Things just keep getting worse for the Roanoke Valley Rebels.

Cincinnati beat the Rebels 8-7 Saturday for its second victory over Roanoke Valley in as many days. The loss was the season-high seventh straight for the Rebels, who are in last place in the East Coast Hockey League's Eastern Division.

On Saturday, a crowd of nearly 10,000 at the Cincinnati Gardens saw the Cyclones jump out to a 4-1 first-period lead. After Roanoke Valley's Brian Bellefeuille scored the first of his two goals to open the scoring, the Cyclones answered with four straight in a 10-minute span.

The Rebels pulled to 5-4, but Cincinnati extended the lead to 7-4 in the second period as Chris Marshall scored his second goal of the game for the Cyclones.

The Rebels again rallied, cutting the lead to 8-7 with a breakaway backhand goal by Ron Jones with 11 minutes to play in the third period. But the Cincinnati defense and goalie Wayne Cowley, who entered the game in the final period, kept the Rebels scoreless the rest of the way.

\ ICE CHIPS: The Rebels have a four-day break before resuming action on Thursday at the LancerLot against Louisville. They will have only two home dates left after Thursday's game.
