FOUR GLENVAR WRESTLERS WIN GROUP A TITLES

All four Glenvar wrestlers who reached the finals won championships and the Highlanders finished third as a team in the 1990 Group A high school wrestling tournament Saturday at Washington and Lee University.

Jamie Soltis won his 112-pound bout by pinning William Bailey of Nandua in 1 minute, 39 seconds; Marvin Lloyd won at 135 by pinning Kelly Meade of J.J. Kelly in 1:25; Jason Porter won a 16-9 overtime decision over Chad Hall of J.J. Kelly at 140; and Brandon Semones won at 160, decisioning Albert Sparks of King William 10-2.

James River's David Perry was the runner-up in the 145 final.

Mathews won the team championship with 116 points, followed by Sussex Central with 101.5, Glenvar with 97 and Parry McCluer with 67.

Among other Timesland teams in the 35-team tournament, Lexington was ninth with 49 points, James River 12th with 35, Natural Bridge tied for 16th with 26, Covington tied for 20th with 18, Chilhowie 22nd with 14, Grayson County tied for 28th with four, and Narrows tied for last with no points.

Brentsville District junior Wes Hugh won third consecutive state championship.
