STATE GAMES ADD SAILING

The Commonwealth Games of Virginia will add sailing to its events this summer.

Competition for Laser and Hobie Cat craft is scheduled at the Virginia Inland Sailing Association [VISA] on the lower Roanoke River arm of Smith Mountain Lake. The dates are June 29 and 30.

This will be the second state-games event for Smith Mountain. Water skiing competition will return to the lake, with slalom, trick and jump events at Bernards Landing. The skiing will be held the same days as the sailboat races.

The two venues are less than a half-mile apart, meaning spectators will be able to view both with little land or water travel involved.
