SEARCH FAILS TO TURN UP WOMAN'S BODY

Police using search dogs and a backhoe searched the same house where a man missing since 1988 was discovered buried.

Neighbors and the family of a missing woman said police were searching for her body. The search Saturday was unsuccessful, police said.

Rebecca Ann Crist, who once lived next door to the home where Raymond O. Fauber's body was discovered, has also been missing since 1988.

Police would not comment except to say that nothing was found.

The remains of Fauber, 63, were found in the basement Feb. 8. He lived in the house with several family members before his disappearance in September 1988.

His son-in-law, Robert C. Asbury, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Fauber's slaying and remains in Augusta County jail.

Raymond Fauber's wife, Margaret R. Fauber, 55, was charged with being an accessory after the fact, a misdemeanor.

Crist was 26 when she disappeared May 3, 1988.

The afternoon she disappeared, Crist answered a telephone call, then quickly left the house, leaving her son in the care of her family. She never returned.

Crist knew Fauber and once sold him a car, family said. She is also believed to have known Robert Asbury.
