E&H STUDENTS FROM NEW RIVER VALLEY TO APPEAR IN OPERA WORKSHOP

Two Emory & Henry College students from the New River Valley will appears March 8-9 in selections from two operas during the college's annual Opera Workshop.

Sarah Jo Straley of Pearisburg will sing the title role in "Manon," composed by Jules Massenet and based on an 18th-century novel, "Manon Lescault," by Abbe Prevost. It tells of a French girl who is eager to experience life's pleasures but naive to its ways.

Maria Whitlock of Pulaski will play Pousette in the opera.

Straley will also play Lauretta and Whitlock will play La Ciesca in "Gianni Schicci," a comic opera by Giacomo Puccini.
