KNIGHTS' HAWTHORNE FOURTH IN REGION

Cave Spring's John Hawthorne had the highest finish of any Roanoke Valley District athlete in the Group AAA indoor track and field meet as he took fourth in the 3,200-meter run at 9:41.06.

Other RVD boys scoring points were William Fleming's Jerel Rhodes, sixth in the shot put at 51-7; Mike Ferguson, fifth in the long jump at 22-1 3/4; and Cave Spring's Dexter Holland, fifth in the 1,000 meters at 2:37.27.

Only two RVD girls placed. Patrick Henry's Felicia Godley was sixth in the long jump at 17-5, while William Fleming's Monica Cabbler was fifth in the triple jump at 36-9. - Staff report
