TRUTH ONE CASUALTY OF LUST FOR VICTORY

TRUTH IS understandably hard to come by in a nation and world caught up in war fever.

The tragic destruction of the Baghdad bomb shelter was followed by a predictable chorus of angry assertions from both sides that "we" are innocent and "they" are inhuman.

We can compare this incident to a traffic fatality in which the driver of the car is speeding recklessly along a busy city street. A bank robber fleeing the scene of the crime shoves aside a young man who falls into the path of the speeding car and is killed. In a court of law, who is blamed for the death? The reckless driver or the bank robber?

I believe the Baghdad incident speaks for itself. We all become losers as we wage this war where truth, reason and respect for life have been trashed in favor of propaganda and a lust for victory. ROBIN B. CHASE ROUTE 1, PILOT
